24/7 Mobile Puncture Repair at Home, Work or Roadside
Nail in your tyre? Slow puncture? TPMS warning light? TMA Mobile Tyres provides mobile puncture assessment and repair at your home, workplace or a suitable roadside location. Our technicians remove, inspect and professionally repair your tyre where it is safe to do so – or quote a replacement if required.
Mobile puncture repair is a professional tyre service where a technician visits your location – home, workplace or suitable roadside – to assess, remove and repair a punctured tyre. The tyre is taken off the wheel, inspected internally, and repaired using a vulcanised patch or mushroom plug in accordance with British Standard BS AU 159. If the tyre cannot be repaired safely, the technician will quote a replacement tyre.
A puncture can only be repaired after the tyre has been removed and inspected. If the damage is outside the permitted repair area, the tyre has been driven while flat, the sidewall is damaged or the tyre is otherwise unsafe, replacement may be required.
Can My Tyre Be Repaired?
Not every puncture can be repaired. The decision depends on the location of the damage, the condition of the tyre and how far you have driven on it.
✅ Repairable – after inspection
- Puncture in the central ¾ of the tread area
- Hole diameter less than 6mm
- Legal tread depth (above 1.6mm across central ¾)
- No secondary damage or structural deterioration
- Tyre has not been driven flat
❌ Not repairable – replacement required
- Damage on the sidewall or shoulder (flex zone)
- Puncture hole larger than 6mm
- Exposed cords, bulging or cracking
- Run-flat tyre driven while deflated
- Tyre previously repaired with a temporary DIY plug or liquid sealant
- Driven while flat – internal structural damage
Common Puncture Causes
Nails, screws, glass and other road debris are the most common causes of punctures. Here is how we assess each situation.
🔩 Nail or screw in the tyre
If the nail or screw is in the central tread area and the tyre has not been driven flat, it may be repairable. The tyre must be removed and inspected internally before a permanent repair can be carried out.
⚠️ Sidewall or shoulder damage
Damage on the sidewall or shoulder of the tyre cannot be repaired. These areas flex constantly while driving, meaning a patch will not hold. Replacement is the only safe option.
🛑 Driven while flat
Driving on a flat tyre causes internal damage to the sidewall and tread, even if the outside looks normal. In most cases, the tyre must be replaced for your safety.
Puncture Repair vs Tyre Replacement
We always aim to repair your tyre where it is safe and legal to do so. When repair is not possible, we carry a matching replacement tyre to get you back on the road.
| Factor | Puncture Repair | Tyre Replacement |
|---|---|---|
| Damage location | Central ¾ of tread | Sidewall, shoulder or outside repair area |
| Hole size | Under 6mm | Over 6mm or irregular damage |
| Tyre condition | Legal tread depth, no structural damage | Driven flat, exposed cords, bulging or cracking |
| Run-flat | Not repairable if driven on | Replacement required |
| Repair standard | BS AU 159 – vulcanised patch or mushroom plug | New tyre fitted and balanced |

Motorway and Fast-Road Safety Comes First
Do not attempt to remove a nail or change a tyre in an unsafe position. Switch on hazard lights, move left where possible and get behind a safety barrier if it is safe to do so. Contact the relevant highways service or emergency services if the vehicle is stopped in a live lane or there is immediate danger.
TMA can attend once the vehicle is at a safe, lawful and accessible fitting location.
What to do while waiting
- Switch on hazard lights
- Move to a safer position where possible
- Do not stand near live traffic
- Send your live location or postcode
- Send a photograph of the tyre
- Confirm the tyre size
- Keep the locking wheel nut key ready
- Wait behind a barrier on high-speed roads where safe

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about mobile puncture repair, tyre assessment and what to do when you have a flat tyre.
Can a nail puncture be repaired?
A nail puncture in the central tread area may be repairable after inspection. The tyre must be removed, inspected internally and repaired using a vulcanised patch or mushroom plug in accordance with BS AU 159.
Can a screw in a tyre be repaired?
Yes, a screw puncture can often be repaired if it is in the central ¾ of the tread and the tyre has not been driven flat. The technician will remove the tyre and inspect it before confirming.
Can you repair a puncture at my home?
Yes. TMA Mobile Tyres can perform a full puncture repair on your driveway, subject to safe access and sufficient working space.
Can you repair a puncture at my workplace?
Yes. We can attend your workplace and repair or replace your tyre, subject to safe access, working space and site permission where required.
Can a sidewall puncture be repaired?
No. Under British Standard BS AU 159, it is illegal and dangerous to repair a puncture on the sidewall or shoulder of a tyre. Replacement is required.
Can a tyre be repaired after being driven flat?
In most cases, no. Driving on a flat tyre causes internal damage to the sidewall and tread. The tyre must be inspected, but replacement is usually required.
Do you remove the tyre before repairing it?
Yes. A professional puncture repair requires the tyre to be removed from the wheel, inspected internally and repaired from the inside using a vulcanised patch or mushroom plug.
Can run-flat tyres be repaired?
In most cases, run-flat tyres cannot be repaired once they have been driven on with low pressure. The internal structure is compromised, and replacement is required for safety.
Can van tyres be repaired?
Van tyres can be repaired if the damage is in the central tread area, the tyre has not been driven flat and the tyre meets all other safety criteria. Replacement may be required for commercial use in some cases.
What happens if the tyre cannot be repaired?
If the tyre is not repairable, TMA will advise you and quote a replacement tyre. We carry a matching replacement tyre where possible, so you are not left stranded.
Do you carry replacement tyres?
Yes. When you book, we will ask for your tyre size and vehicle details. Our vans carry a range of replacement tyres, subject to size and availability.
How do I find my tyre size?
The tyre size is printed on the sidewall, for example 205/55 R16. Send a clear photograph if you cannot read it.
Should I remove a nail from the tyre?
No. Do not remove the nail or screw. It may be sealing the hole and preventing air loss. Removing it could cause a rapid deflation. Leave it in place and call TMA.
Can I drive with a slow puncture?
Driving with a slow puncture is not recommended. The tyre could deflate suddenly or suffer internal damage. Have it inspected and repaired or replaced as soon as possible.
Can you attend a roadside location?
Yes, where the vehicle is in a safe, lawful and accessible position. TMA cannot work in live traffic lanes or unsafe locations.
Can you attend near a motorway?
Attendance may be possible once the vehicle is at a safe, lawful and accessible location such as a refuge area, slip road or service station. TMA cannot work in live motorway lanes.
What information should I send?
Send your exact location, vehicle registration, tyre size, which wheel is affected, a clear photo of the tyre and whether the locking wheel nut key is available.
How is the price calculated?
The price depends on tyre size, tyre type, whether repair or replacement is required, location and time of day. A clear quote is provided before dispatch.
Are night and Sunday call-outs available?
TMA advertises 24-hour emergency call-outs, including nights and Sundays, subject to technician and tyre availability.
Can you help with a locking wheel nut?
Yes. Assistance may be possible. Send a clear photograph of the locking wheel nut and wheel before dispatch so the likely equipment requirement can be assessed.
